Prince Harry’s ‘Spare’ Memoir Causes Controversy

Prince Harry seems to be making headlines with his recent book tour and TV appearances. His memoir, entitled “Spare,” has garnered attention for being candid about his experiences in the royal family and his relationship with his younger brother, Prince William.



In his lone American television appearance on 60 Minutes, Harry spoke with Anderson Cooper about a variety of subjects, including the physical altercation with his brother and the arduous process of coming to terms with the death of his mother Princess Diana, which reportedly involved the use of psychedelic drugs.

“For a long time, I just refused to accept that she was— she was gone,” the prince stated. “Part of, you know, she would never do this to us, but also part of, maybe this is all part of a plan.” 

While many have praised Harry for being honest and open about his experiences, others have criticized him for potentially causing further tension within the royal family.

Regardless of the reaction, it’s clear that Harry’s book tour and television appearances have generated considerable interest and discussion.

To cope with his grief, Harry sought the help of a therapist and also turned to experimental treatments including psychedelics such as ayahuasca, psilocybin and mushrooms.

The Prince Response

Harry emphasized that he does not suggest using these substances for recreational purposes, instead recommending them as a form of treatment for people who are experiencing grief, loss, or trauma.

He explained that the psychedelics helped him “clear the windshield, the misery of loss.” Harry’s candid discussion of his use of psychedelics has sparked debate and raised awareness about their potential use in treating mental health issues.
